Our history
The story behind a highly specialised business area within the RMIG Group
From craft business to metalworking specialist
In 1890, in Stockstadt am Rhein, south of Frankfurt, Germany, the skilled locksmith, and entrepreneur Jakob Friedrich Nold founded the company J. F. Nold & Co.
Initially, the company focused on the manufacture and sales of locks. However, it soon evolved into a specialist in metal processing for a wide range of applications and became the largest employer in Stockstadt am Rhein and the surrounding region.
Promoting both business and cultural life
Manufacturer Nold became a central figure in both the business and cultural life of Stockstadt. Pictured as chairman of the church singers' association, he is seated in the centre of the large ensemble, which staged several performances.
Growth, expansion, and new production methods
In its early years, J. F. Nold & Co. relied on craftsmanship and manual manufacturing. This began to change with the introduction of perforating machines, which enabled metal parts to be produced in larger volumes for products such as ventilators. By the mid-1920s, the company adopted series production, marking a significant shift from hand-made to industrial-scale output. This transition fuelled continued growth and opened the door to new markets.
Fulfilling the demand for metal components
In the latter half of the decade, there was a significant demand for metal components and perforated metal, needs that J. F. Nold & Co. helped fulfil as part of Western Germany's reconstruction effort.
The company provided employment for hundreds and played a vital role in the development of the regional business landscape and infrastructure in and around Stockstadt.
Introduction of CONIDUR
In the early 1950s, J. F. Nold & Co. experienced continued growth, both in sales and workforce. Alongside this expansion, the company advanced its technological capabilities, focusing on perforation with exceptional precision.
This commitment to innovation led to the introduction of CONIDUR in 1951—a groundbreaking technology that enabled perforations smaller than the thickness of the metal sheet. For example, it made it possible to perforate 0.5 mm sheets with holes as small as 0.1 mm.
Transforming Stockstadt into a modern community
At its peak during the 1960s, J. F. Nold & Co. employed between 600 and 700 people across its production facilities, galvanising workshop, and administrative offices.
The company’s financial success significantly contributed to the transformation of Stockstadt into a thriving, modern community. The decade marked a period of remarkable growth, innovation, and prosperity.
Continued expansion and facility development
Driven by rising demand both at home and abroad, J. F. Nold & Co. expanded its manufacturing facilities in 1963. The development supported increased production capacity and responded to the growing need for high-precision and high-productivity output.
A speciality that continues to this day
As consumer goods such as cars and electronics became more accessible, J. F. Nold & Co. specialised in metal machining and perforation for the electronics and automotive industries.
The company developed great expertise in this area, which today forms the core of the precision products still manufactured in Stockstadt am Rhein under the RMIG Automotive business area.
Promotion of new production processes
The organisation and company structure in Stockstadt am Rhein were continuously updated. Operating under the name J. F. Nold GmbH & Co. KG, the company stood out as a prominent and innovative manufacturer in the region during the 1970s and 1980s.
New production processes were introduced, and the latest technology was applied to the manufacturing of perforated sheets and filters for a wide range of applications. The materials included aluminium, steel, copper, brass, and zinc.
Consolidating the position in the automotive industry
Maintaining its role as a trusted automotive supplier, J. F. Nold GmbH & Co. KG specialised in producing grids and various perforated elements for exterior and interior automotive applications.
Solutions of all shapes and sizes
In 1992, J. F. Nold GmbH & Co. KG demonstrated its versatility by manufacturing a wide range of perforated solutions, spanning from automotive components and interior architectural elements to pipes, sheets, and expanded metal. Among the highlights was the innovative CONIDUR®, a precision-engineered product that set new standards in fine perforation technology.
The company also delivered large-format solutions for specialised industrial needs. One example was in the area of well filters, where high-performance, perforated applications were produced for demanding environments. As illustrated here, two employees prepare a sizeable perforated filter system for installation, underscoring the company’s capability in delivering both scale and accuracy.
New ownership and optimism in Stockstadt
The reunited Europe brought great changes and presented many established companies with challenges. This also applied to J. F. Nold GmbH & Co. KG, which in 1995 had to be declared insolvent in light of the new conditions on the market.
Despite this, a new chapter began. Key parts of the business, especially the specialised production of components for electronic devices and the automotive industry, were acquired by RM Industrial Group (RMIG). Operations continued under the new name RM Nold GmbH (later RMIG Nold GmbH), with production remaining in Stockstadt am Rhein. This transition marked the beginning of renewed stability and future growth under RMIG’s ownership.
An important certification for the company and customers
In 2011, RMIG Nold GmbH reinforced its commitment to quality by supplementing its existing ISO 9001 certification with the automotive-specific ISO/TS 16949. This internationally recognised standard reflects stringent quality management requirements throughout the supply chain.
Together, these certifications confirmed the company’s capability to deliver consistently high standards, positioning RMIG Nold GmbH as a trusted strategic partner for customers with exacting demands.
Expanding reach through MEVACO acquisition
In 2019, RMIG acquired its largest competitor, MEVACO, expanding the RMIG Group’s reach to include seven manufacturing and logistics units and local representation in 14 European countries, along with additional representatives in many overseas markets.
Focusing on specialised market leadership
In 2022, the RMIG Group reorganised into three distinct Business Areas – RMIG Solutions, RMIG Automotive, and MEVACO – each with a tailored growth strategy to strengthen its market presence and business model.
RMIG Nold GmbH assumed responsibility for the RMIG Automotive Business Area. With a foundation built on high quality, reliability, expertise, and innovation, the company has secured a solid position as a trusted supplier to the global automotive industry.
New logo honouring heritage and embracing the future
RMIG introduced an updated logo reflecting the company's rich heritage and forward-looking vision. The iconic RM globe has transformed into a circle of perforated dots, symbolising both RMIG’s expertise and global reach – a design that pays homage to our history while emphasising RMIG’s leadership in the perforation industry.
From RMIG Nold GmbH to RMIG Automotive GmbH
In 2025, the company’s legal name changed from RMIG Nold GmbH to RMIG Automotive GmbH. A clear reflection of its long-standing expertise and commitment to the automotive industry.
The new name reinforces the company’s strategic role within the RMIG Automotive business area and signals a continued focus on innovation, precision, and high-quality perforated and formed components. While the name has changed, the values and dedication remain the same - rooted in tradition, driven by the future.
